You would not expect a top flight concert venue to be located in a town in southeastern Oklahoma that has a population of under 20,000 people. When your town houses the closest hotel casino to the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, things happen. Coherent Design was brought in by Las Vegas based Klai Juba Wald Architects to provide design and consulting for a one hundred plus million dollar expansion of the Choctaw Durant Hotel and Casino.
The project consists of a new nearly 3,000 seat concert and events center, nearly 30,000 square feet of convention and meeting space, as well as a new hotel tower. Coherent Design was to focus on the audiovisual, acoustics, and theatrical lighting of the concert venue and the meeting spaces. The concert venue, which opens in late June of 2015 with the band Aerosmith, is a boutique, but world class venue. The technology includes new line array speakers from Berkeley California based Meyer Sound Labs and included one of the first indoor installations of the Meyer Lyon and Leo speaker systems. A large ETC dimming and control systems, as well as intelligent lighting fixtures from Clay Paky and lighting control from Germany’s MA lighting will make this a special place for concerts. Coherent Design was also responsible for the architectural lighting design in this facility, which will mark one of Coherent’s first large scale architectural lighting projects.
